A student of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has lost his life during an armed robbery incident targeting a group of students returning from a field trip to the Bui Power Authority.
The victim, identified as Abdul Aziz Issah, a Level 400 Renewable Energy Engineering student known by his nickname Zamani, was among the students attacked by armed robbers around Boffourkrom in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region. The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at around 7:00 in the evening.
In a statement released by the University, the group of students, consisting of Level 300 and 400 Renewable Energy Engineering students, was ambushed by armed robbers during their return from the field trip. The university confirmed the unfortunate loss of one student’s life due to the incident. The family of the deceased has been notified, and the university extended its thoughts and condolences to them during this difficult time.
The remaining students who were involved in the attack received immediate medical attention and have since been discharged. Additionally, they are currently undergoing necessary counseling to support them through this traumatic experience.
The Sunyani Police Command swiftly responded to the incident, apprehending one suspect in connection with the armed robbery. The university urged neighboring communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
The University of Energy and Natural Resources assured the public and concerned parents that they would provide updates as necessary to keep everyone informed about the situation.
