The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is asking African leaders to embrace citizen empowerment as a critical step toward establishing democracy and driving economic development on the continent.

He made these remarks during the Democratic Union of Africa (DUA) Annual Forum in Accra. Vice President Bawumia used the forum, which brought together leaders and stakeholders from around Africa, to underline the fundamental link between democracy, rule of law, and economic development.

He emphasized that democracy and the rule of law foster an atmosphere in which individual freedoms are respected, innovation thrives, and economic activity flourishes.

Vice President Bawumia however pointed out that in order for democracy to really take hold in Africa, governments and leaders must place a high priority on citizen empowerment.

He urged other leaders to concentrate on empowering people via better healthcare, education, digitization, individual liberties and free market promotion, and international collaboration.

Vice President Bawumia contended that African nations can foster an atmosphere in which their people are capable of actively engaging in the democratic process and making a positive impact on their economies by empowering their population.

He underlined that empowering citizens is not just morally necessary but also economically so as they are more likely to innovate, launch new ventures, and generate employment, all of which contribute to wealth and economic growth.

Additionally, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emphasized the value of digitization in boosting efficiency and transparency in government.

He clarified that governments may enhance service delivery, lessen corruption, and boost public participation in the democratic process by utilizing technology.
