Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has stated that the 2024 general election is for more than simply political parties; it is also about the soul of the nation.

He claims that political parties and their leaders must recognise that this year’s election is completely distinct from previous ones held throughout the Fourth Republic.

He stated that this is a vital election that will test whether we are truly dedicated to the concept of multiparty constitutional democracy.

In an interview that’s not yet broadcast, Mr. Bagbin told TV3’s Beatrice Adu, “The 2024 elections are unlike the 1992 elections, the 1996 elections, or the 2000 elections.” It differs from the elections in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2020 as well. Our level of commitment to the multiparty constitutional democracy cause will be determined by the outcome of this crucial election.

This election is obviously not just about the political parties; it’s about the soul of our country, which is why we need highly experienced political leaders, like His Excellency the President, who became involved in politics at a young age due to his parentage, became the president of the Kwame Nkrumah Youth Forum, joined the United Party, Progress Party, and now the NPP after the 1966 elections, and then came out to say something that is inciting people to violence that even in the event that we lose the election, we won’t give up and will make every effort to maintain our grasp on power.

“That is unacceptable. The president is aware that the power he is exercising is not his own; rather, it belongs to the people, especially the electorate, so I was really surprised to hear that. It is merely a hollow brag since the people who cast their votes and granted you that authority on January 6, 2024, know that HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo does not possess that authority”.

Speaking to supporters at a mini-rally in Doboro, Greater Accra, after touring Blue Skies Limited’s facilities, President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his lack of trust in Mr. Mahama to lead the nation’s development.

“I cannot turn things over to someone I have defeated twice and who is dissatisfied with everything I do because he will ruin the effort I have done.

“I have worked with Dr. Bamwua for the past seven and a half years; I have faith in him, and I know he can keep up the good work. Please vote for him”, he stated.
