The President of the Association, Hon. Kokro Amankwah, who resigned from the position in February this year.
Until his official appointment, Mr. Justice Senyo Tsitsia, who served as Acting General Secretary, had temporarily held the role.
Speaking at the brief ceremony, the President of the Association, Hon. Alfred Asiedu Adjei congratulated Mr. Amarh and entreated the staff to work collectively in advancing the course of NALAG devoid of any acrimony and backstabbing.
Mr. Justice Senyo Tsistia called on staff to give the new General Secretary the needed support just as he received while serving in the capacity as the Ag. General Secretary. He expressed his gratitude to the entire staff and NEC for the opportunity he received.
Mr. Amarh is no stranger to NALAG. He has served in several strategic roles, including Research Manager of the Association and National Project Coordinator (NPC) of the Partnership for Municipal Innovation – Women in Local Leadership (PMI-WILL) Project, where he led groundbreaking work to empower women’s participation in local governance.
In his acceptance remarks, the new General Secretary expressed gratitude to the President, the National Executive Council (NEC), and the staff of NALAG for the trust they had reposed in him.
“I am deeply honoured by this appointment,” Mr. Amarh said. “I look forward to rebranding NALAG as a responsive Association to our members and stakeholders and make our services relevant within the ecosystem of Local Governance and decentralization. I will pursue a rigorous revenue mobilization drive to sustain the gains of the Association. No idea is too small, and so I want us to respect every idea that any staff member has and work to achieve the NALAG Agenda.” He added.
Staff members welcomed the appointment with optimism, while assuring Mr. Amarh of their commitment to ensuring that NALAG achieves its aims and objectives.
