The Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah today convened an emergency meeting with key players in the energy sector to address the looming power crisis, commonly referred to as “dumsor.”

The objective of the meeting was to develop an immediate and long-term solutions to stabilize power supply and avert nationwide outages.

The director of operations at GRIDCo, Mr. Frank Okyere, in an interview with the media indicated that the emergency meeting was necessitated because the west African Gas pipeline company had informed them of a planned maintenance activity which was supposed to be done on the Gas pipeline that rubbed from Nigeria which brings Gas to Ghana in order to ensure that the Thermal plants at Tema will work well but that maintenance hasn’t been done.

He noted that the plant in Tema will be shut down for the one month period that the maintenance will be done.

Mr. Okyere indicated that throughout the maintenance it will be needful for the provisions of some oil to ensure that some other plants will continue to work even as the maintenance work is being carried on.

Acting Government spokesperson, Mr. Felix Kwakye ofosu, when asked if dumsor will be back indicated that, they are waiting on work of the committee however government is working on the impact. He was quick to add that the current situation is as a result of the past government’s failure on the energy sector.
