A high court in Accra presided over by Justice Richard Apietu has thrown out an application challenging the appointment of Commisioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno’s appointment as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP) in charge of operations.

This was after a private citizen , Emmanuel Felix Mantey had gone to court to challenge that under the laws of Ghana, there was no appointment as deputy IGP in charge of operations.

The action was initiated following the appointment of COP Christian Yohuno by President Akufo-Addo on July 17, 2024, as the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations to assist IGP Dr George Akufo Dampare.

The application contended that the Constitution only recognised the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and did not create a ‘Deputy Inspector General of Police.

He therefore prayed the court to restrain COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno from holding himself as Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations but his application was thrown out.
According to the court, President Akufo-Addo acted in accordance with his administrative functions and not that of a judicial one.
