The Electoral Commission (EC) has moved to allay the fears of eligible voters, stating that errors on registration slips do not affect an individual’s eligibility to vote.

This comes after reports emerged of discrepancies on registration slips, including misspelled names, incorrect dates of birth, and wrong voter identification numbers.

In a statement released on Thursday, the EC assured the public that these errors are merely clerical and do not affect the validity of a person’s registration.

“The errors on the registration slips are minor and do not in any way affect the eligibility of the voter,” said a spokesperson for the EC. “As long as the voter’s name appears on the voter register, they are eligible to vote, regardless of any errors on the registration slip.”

The EC explained that the registration slips are generated from the data captured during the registration process and are prone to errors. However, the commission assured that the data on the voter register is accurate and up-to-date.

The clarification comes as a relief to many eligible voters who were concerned that the errors on their registration slips would disenfranchise them.

The EC has urged eligible voters to verify their details on the voter register and report any errors to their nearest EC office.

With the elections looming, the EC has assured the public that it is working tirelessly to ensure the credibility and integrity of the electoral process.
