The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a warning to the public to brace for more rainstorms with thunder and destructive winds in the coming days.
According to GMet, a low-pressure system is developing in the Gulf of Guinea, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to parts of the country.
“We are expecting a series of rainstorms to affect the country, particularly the southern and middle belts, from today till the end of the week,” said Felicity Ahafianyo the head of Central Analysis and forecast at GMet in an interview with citinews. “These storms will be accompanied by strong winds, thunder, and lightning, which could cause damage to properties and disrupt outdoor activities.”
GMet has advised the public to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the storms. “We urge everyone to stay indoors during the storms, avoid driving or traveling, and keep away from windows and doors to prevent injuries from broken glass,”.
The agency has also warned of possible flooding in low-lying areas and advised residents to take necessary precautions to protect their properties and livelihoods.
The warning comes after several parts of the country experienced heavy rainfall and flooding in the early hours of May 6th, which caused damage to properties and disrupted transportation.
GMet has assured the public that it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on any changes in the weather pattern.
