The Supreme Court has dismissed an injuction application filed by IMANI Africa and Professor Kwesi Aning seeking to stop President Mahama from removing the IGP from Office.

The five member panel chaired by Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie said they have come to the conclusion that the action has become moot, adding that despite the substantive matter scheduled for judgment on May 7, that does not stop the President from performing his public and administrative functions. The Supreme court also held that, for that reason it cannot be said that the action of the president was done to overreach the Supreme Court.

The Policy Think Tank, IMANI Professor Kwasi Aning , a security analyst filed a joint injunction appliction at the Supreme Court to restrain President Mahama from appointing a new IGP .

When the case was called today, Kofi Bentil counsel for IMANI Africa noted that the removal of the IGP over reached the powers of the court but Adjoa Obeng, a Principal State Attorney prayed the court to dismiss the action explaining that, an injuction cannot seek to restrain an event which has already occurred.
