A key member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah has stated that Ghana’s future president should be interested in forming a government that will secure national unity.

Mr Jantuah said this after criticizing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of failing to unite the country.

“I believe that the future president’s first concern should be how to establish a government of national unity.”

“There are brains sitting on the fence who can come and help,” he stated on TV3’s New Day broadcast on Friday, July 19.

He added that there are flaws in the current system of governance that need to be fixed by amending the constitution.

He claimed that the 1992 Constitution, for example, gave the president excessive authority.

He said that this needs to stop because it’s not helping.

Local government is not functioning at the moment and it is not centralized at the highest levels.

“We could have dealt with it if it had been a functioning station in the district.”

Regarding the economic problems that the people of Ghana are facing, Mr. Jantuah instructed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to extend his condolences to them.

He described the financial struggles that resulted in pensioners staging picketings against their enrollment in the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), which in turn caused multiple business failures and worsened the situation.

Mr. Jantuah pointed out that as Ghanaians are tolerant, they will probably accept Mr. Akufo-Addo’s honest apologies.

“Are retirees making this selection for the first time? Apologize to them that you haven’t managed the economy well and ask for their forgiveness because Ghanaians are very forgiving,” He stated.
