An adult male named Stanley Ahadzi was shot and murdered by an off-duty police officer in Koans Estate near Kuntunse on Sunday, August 18, 2024, in Accra.

This was a horrific incident. An argument about a ride-hailing fee between the dead and General Constable Smith Gyeke who was operating a vehicle for a ride-hailing service seemed to be the reason behind the incident, which reportedly occurred at 4:00 in the morning.

After the argument turned deadly, Ahadzi was shot.

In the course of their investigation into the incident, the police have taken Gyeke into custody. For preservation and an autopsy, the deceased person’s body has been placed in the police hospital morgue.

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police, and representatives from the Police Management Board (POMAB) paid the deceased’s family a visit as a sign of their unity and dedication to justice, expressing their condolences and guaranteeing a comprehensive inquiry.

In addition, other cops and a police clinical psychologist have been appointed to assist the family during this trying period.

The police have reaffirmed their commitment to seeing that justice is done, saying that the officer in question will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The public’s attention will be keenly observed during the course of the investigation because the incident has sparked questions about police accountability and the use of deadly force.
