The National Democratic Congress on Wednesday,April 24th has officially unveiled Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman as the running mate to Presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama.

During her public address, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed unwavering support for her party’s flag bearer John Mahama. She emphasized that she would stand with him through both successes and challenges, without diminishing her role or contributions within the NDC.

“I will share in our collective successes and share responsibility for our setbacks if any. And at the time of reckoning, Your Excellency John Mahama, I will not in advancement of self-serving ambition declare to the whole world that I was only the driver’s mate,” said the former Education Minister.

In contrast to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s metaphorical characterization of himself as a “driver’s mate,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang embraced her role as an equal partner in the party’s quest for national progress.

Highlighting the importance of the upcoming December 7th elections, she stressed that victory for the NDC extends beyond a political return to power. Instead, she articulated a vision of healing and progress for Ghana, envisioning a nation free from corruption and injustice

‘We must work towards a Ghana that at the very least, can feed itself; where the law truly works; where there is shared prosperity; where democracy has not become a fluke; where people are not abused and where the basic necessities of life are not denied the majority or eventually, anyone.’

She spoke passionately about rebuilding a Ghana that fosters hope and confidence among its citizens, where democratic values are upheld, and where the basic needs of every individual are met.

‘It is a chance to work hard towards a country where citizens do not feel disrespected, are not intimidated, ignored because of the way they vote or the language they speak’.
