Ghanaian entrepreneur Atinga Nsobila Joel is making headlines with his ambitious endeavor to break the Guinness World Record for the longest barbecue marathon, dubbed the kebab-a-thon. At Legon City Mall, he kicked off this impressive feat on April 11, 2024, aiming to grill non-stop for an astounding 90 hours until April 14. His goal? To surpass the current record of 80 hours held by Jan Greeff, a USA-South African citizen, and etch his name in the Guinness World Records history.
A wave of support has washed over Atinga as Ghanaians, including notable social media influencers like Kaly Jay (@gyaigyimii) and Asiedu Mens (@AsieduMends), gathered at the Legon City Mall to cheer him on. Encouraged by this outpouring of love, Atinga took to social media to express his gratitude, sharing, “I love everyone showing up for me” on his platform.
In a recent interview, Atinga revealed his inspiration behind the kebab-a-thon: to challenge negative stereotypes about kebab sellers in Ghana and raise awareness about the economic significance and health benefits of their products. He hopes to shift public perception and foster appreciation for the value of kebab making and selling within the country.
Atinga Nsobila Joel is not alone in his pursuit of Guinness World Records glory. He joins a growing list of Ghanaians who have attempted various records since December 2023, though none have succeeded thus far. Determined to avoid their fate, Atinga is on a mission not only to make history but also to transform attitudes towards Ghana’s kebab industry, one skewer at a time.
