About 15,000 male students in Senior High Schools across the country have benefited from Wellmen Healthy Minds Foundation’s ‘The Future Man’ campaign.
The programme which started in July 2024 and ongoing is to help students manage examination related stress.
The program will also educate the boys on how to prepare for the upcoming WASSCE without stress, hence improving their ability to perform better.
Among the Kumasi-based schools that will benefit are Spiritan Senior High Technical School, Osei Tutu Senior High School, Prempeh College, and St. Hubert Seminary Senior High School.
The other two, located in the Eastern and Central areas, are Ghana National College and Adonten Senior High School, respectively.
In a recent interview, Dr. Daniel Osei Yeboah, the President and Founder of Wellmen, observed that the majority of students were experiencing stress due to worry, fear of tests, and associated mental unease.
“We’re here to encourage them to relax, loosen up and let their dreams come true,” he said.
Based on his observations, he claims that many men indulge in drug and alcohol abuse as well as other dangerous habits; thus, the notion of “The Future Man” seeks to change this by interacting with young boys.
“If we look after our boys, they will grow up to be men who are ready to lead our beloved country,” Dr. Yeboah emphasized.
He mentioned that the urge of young men in Ghana to move outside of their country is an amazing and disheartening issues.
“Africa is the next ‘heaven,’ hence our resolve to engage boys on their mental health,” Dr. Yeboah said, adding that “they’ve lost hope and a sense of belonging.”
Dr. Yeboah urged the young people to believe in their abilities and skill set so they can accomplish something meaningful for themselves rather than leaving Ghana.
Prominent figures on the campaign team for the foundation are Vice President Prof. Nana Kena Frimpong; American partner Dr. Tye Caldwell; PRO Dr. Gideon Gratien Montgomery; Media Production Manager and Regional Mental Health Coordinator Mr. Wisdom Agodza; and Ghana Education Service (GES) SHEP Coordinators, Faustina Nuako and Lydia Asante Frempong from Kumasi.
