In the early hours of Sunday in Suhyen, an area in the Eastern Region’s New Juaben North Municipality, an unidentified man in his early 30s was electrocuted while attempting to steal a transformer from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Residents awoke to the startling sight of the man’s lifeless body laying next to the ECG transformer, with no obvious evidence of physical attack or injuries.

The act has sent shockwaves throughout the neighborhood, and it is thought to be the most recent in a string of attacks against ECG installations in the region.

The company’s activities have been significantly damaged by the regular attacks on ECG installations, which have also disrupted the power supply and negatively impacted the livelihoods of local businesses and inhabitants.

Officers from the Koforidua Effiduase Police Divisional command and representatives from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) hurried to the location as soon as they learned of the tragedy.

Currently, the team has started looking into what exactly caused the unfortunate incident and what happened before it.

After confirming what had happened, Daniel Kankam Twumasi, the Deputy Director of NADMO for New Juaben North Municipality, gave an explanation of why the body of the unidentified man had been placed at the morgue at Effiduase St. Joseph Hospital, awaiting further examination and identification.
