A senior member in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Darko has expressed severe unhappiness with the lack of recognition for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s outstanding achievements.

Despite the President’s tremendous achievements in critical sectors, including education and health, Mr. Otchere-Darko believes he has not gotten adequate recognition.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, Mr Otchere-Darko stated that general conditions have improved, emphasizing that despite more access, the quality of education has not declined.

“What other issues are important if more children have access to education and the outcomes demonstrate that the quality of education has not declined? And they have more teachers than previously. Teachers are not protesting that they have not received their wages. I believe that Akufo-Addo has not received the praise that he deserves.”

He recalled incidents under Mahama’s administration when numerous firms were in danger of failing as a result of repeated power outages, or “Dumsor.”

He contrasted that with Mahama’s administration, which was compelled to seek an International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout in spite of the lack of a global economic crisis, and Akufo-Addo’s government, which has shown resilience.

“Despite the fact that there was no worldwide crisis in 2015 or 2016, there are still lines at our gas stations. Ask Ghanaian hairdressers, barbers, seamstresses, cold store owners, and hoteliers in 2015 and 2016. Because they were unable to pay for their generators’ lights, hotels were turning away guests.

“People were working and paying their electricity bills with the majority of their earnings in order to keep the generator running. Despite the absence of a worldwide catastrophe, all of these things yet occurred.

“Ghana suffered greatly during the global crisis that the globe was going through, and Ghanaians suffered as well. What if we hadn’t had Akufo-Addo and we had someone else? Compare what transpired in 2014 and 2015, if any, when we were compelled to approach the IMF for a bailout in the absence of a world crisis.
