Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith claimed to have achieved a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by one individual in a phony triumph post on Facebook on July 2, 2024.

According to Chef Smith,”it’s with great pleasure and honor that we inform the general public and the media of the press conference of Millennium Chef Smith as he announces his results from the Guinness World Records for the longest cooking marathon by an individual at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on Tuesday 2 July 2024.”

The Millennium Chef was excited about his latest achievement before to the press presentation at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

“And to my fellow Ghanaians, this will always be the day I remember. As the holder of the Guinness World Record, I am deeply humbled and grateful to be here in front of you today. 802.25 seconds were spent cooking.”

“My heart is bursting with happiness and thanks for realizing this ambition. Cooking has always been my calling and my true love, so having my ability recognized as a global talent is really a dream come true”, he continued.

While the chef was explaining the difficult path that led to his success to the assembled reporters at the La Palm Hotel in Accra, he was taken into custody by a few police officers.

Chef Smith’s manager, Benny, told Hitz FM that the altercation was caused by musician Nana Boro, who claimed to be owed money by Mr. Smith.

“A few minutes into the programme, these folks approached us. One introduced himself as Nana Boro, a musician, and one or two others. Apparently, their issue was that they were part of the old crew that in some way supported Chef Smith during the cook-a-thon, and Chef Smith owes them money, and he won’t allow the press conference to go place until he solves it,” the manager told Dr Pounds on Tuesday.

The management further explained that despite attempts to fix the problem after the ceremony, the security personnel did not budge, resulting in

Some concerned Ghanaians who hadn’t seen an official communique from Guinness World Record started raising alarm.

Certain media outlets have verified that the certificate Chef Smith displayed during the press conference is not from GWR

“The longest cooking marathon (individual) was completed by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from September 28 to October 3, 2023, clocking in at 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds,” this information was clarified by GWR.

PR Manager, Madalyn Biefield from Guinness World Records further explained that they are not even aware of Chef Smith’s attempt and that they did not receive any application from him.

However, Benny stated that the record is genuine, and that Guinness World Records confirmed it via email.

Chef Smith began his cook-a-thon journey on February 1, 2024. He cooked for 820 hours, completing his marathon on March 6, 2024, despite his planned goal of 1,200 hours.
