The Commission has presented the soft copies of the certified voter register to all political parties and independent presidential candidates contesting for the presidential election on December 7.
This move is a testament to the Commission’s commitment to transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
According to the Electoral Commission, the final voter’s register contains the names of over 18,772,251 registered voters, who will be eligible to cast their ballots on December 7. The register has undergone rigorous verification and validation processes to ensure its accuracy and integrity.
The presentation of the voter register to political parties is in line with Regulation 23(1) of C.I 91, which mandates the Commission to compile and display the provisional voters’ register for verification and objections. The Commission has also made provisions for voters to request amendments, replacements, or insertions where necessary.
“The purpose of our meeting here this afternoon is to present you with the final certified copies of the 2024 voters register. As you may recall, at our last IPAC meeting held on Tuesday the 15th of October 2024, the commission indicated that it would provide the soft copies of the certified final voters register for the 2024 general election to political parties ahead of time”.
During the presentation on Wednesday, November 6, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jane Mensah said following the re-exhibition of the revised provisional voters register, the commission received a total of 158 issues from registered voters across the country.
“I’m pleased to note that all the officials have resolved and as we speak, we have no fair enough issues regarding the final voters register for the 2024 general election. As you may recall, at that meeting, we provided the political parties with the template on which to report any issues they had with the revised provisional voters register”.
Jane Mensah has assured the public that the final voter register is robust and credible and that all necessary measures have been taken to prevent multiple registrations and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
“The Electoral Commission of Ghana has taken a significant step towards ensuring the credibility of the upcoming December 7 general elections”.
With the voter register now finalized, the stage is set for a peaceful and transparent general election on December 7. The Electoral Commission’s efforts to ensure the credibility of the electoral process are commendable and Ghanaians can look forward to exercising their franchise with confidence.
