The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has said there is no constitutional crisis in Ghana, as some members of the public have perceived based on recent events in Parliament. According to the Speaker, Parliament is alive and working in accordance with the country’s democratic system.

Rt Hon Alban Bagbin made this known at a press conference at Parliament House today on the consequences of litigation in Parliament’s court proceedings.

Rt Hon Alban Bagbin accused the executive of seemingly colluding with the Judiciary to weaken Parliament.

The Speaker also described recent acts of the Judiciary and the Executive as interference in Parliament’s work and as a direct challenge to its essence, jurisdiction, authority, and function.

The Speaker also described the President’s refusal to receive the LGBTQ+ Bill passed by Parliament and the Judiciary’s receipt and processing of a suit on the same subject matter as a sin against the Constitution of Ghana.
