Former Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan, has expressed his willingness to step into the role of running mate for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flag bearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December general elections.

Speaking in a television interview, the former skipper of Ghana’s senior football team said he had no intention of turning it down if the offer was ever made, adding that it would be an honour.

“Honour is something everybody likes. I won’t reject it, but I know that’s big,” the former Rennes and Sunderland forward said, clearly amused by the question.

Currently holding the title of the nation’s all-time leading goal scorer, Gyan serves as the chairman of the Sports Sub-Committee within the Vice President’s manifesto committee. In this capacity, he is actively involved in shaping strategic sports policies that aim to enhance Ghana’s sports sector, should Dr. Bawumia emerge victorious in the December presidential race.

While acknowledging that the notion of becoming an NPP running mate remains hypothetical at this stage, Gyan remains dedicated to utilizing his wealth of experience and expertise gained from his football career to contribute to the advancement of Ghana’s sports industry.
