Former President John Mahama has attacked Ghanaian chiefs, pastors, imams, and traditionalists for their supporting of the current New Patriotic Party (NPP), expressing his frustration.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, Mr. Mahama, claims that pastors, chiefs, and members of civil society are siding with the NPP against the NDC.

At the Alogblogshie Anglican Church, the former president spoke to a group of chiefs, imams, and clergy members. He pointed out that, despite to what he claims is being said about the NPP’s poor administration of Ghanaians, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, has been praised by the chiefs, clergy, and imams he has visited.

In an attempt to regain power after suffering a humiliating loss in the general elections of 2016 and 2020, John Mahama has stated his dissatisfaction with the traditional elders’ support for the NPP.

“The chiefs and traditional leaders, should be unbiased and speak the truth to power, but instead they are endorsing Dr. Bawumia wherever he goes and backing the NPP”, he said.

The former president voiced his dissatisfaction that the traditional leaders are not coming out against the NPP government and called it “useless.”

He pointed out that the NPP brought about the failure of the nation, yet the traditional leaders are praising them rather than criticizing them.

Mahama has repeatedly criticized opinion leaders and traditional elders for their backing of the NPP.

He attacked the Chiefs in 2020 for keeping quiet about the NPP’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Chiefs reacted against him, claiming that his remarks were disrespectful.
